Introduction

The Vela Ranch's licensed whitetail breeding operation formally began in the spring of 2000. Our principle goal has been to develop a superior bloodline, producing outstanding, healthy, heavy-antlered, typical bucks. Our foundation does came from respected whitetail breeders, including Gary Machen, 777 Ranch, and the Paco Deer Company. Our first breeder buck, Gamba, out of Paco and Buddy Jordan bloodline, proved to be a producer of large-framed deer.

To continue our original philosophy of producing large-framed Texas whitetail deer, the Vela Ranch began its artificial insemination program in 2004. Through the years, semen from some of the well-known Texas giants including Cowboy, Bambi 727, Bullwinkle, Gladiator, King Solomon, BB Peanut, Woodard’s Dennis, and Gladiator Cochise, have been used to inseminate well-pedigreed does. As a result, the Vela Ranch has produced many typical and beautiful deer making breeders and hunters quite happy.

Unlike many breeders, the Vela Ranch can proudly assert that our deer herd remains greater than 92% South Texas genetics. The offspring typically sport large frames and a South Texas look. The 2012 breeding will be live breeding done with VR Baby 727, VR Rockstar, and VR Stonewall Jr. These breeder bucks’ pedigrees are loaded with R. Williams, Wheeler, Dugger, and Gonzales’ genetics.
